Mechanical at first glance, the figurative works of Letlhogonolo Mashaba can be regarded as an investigation into the mechanism of being through the lens of a microscope.

Using both organic and artificial forms, shapes and motifs, Mashaba visually explores the intertwined connections in his quest for an understanding of the origins and networks of life which he describes as a dialogue between mind body and soul.

The physical manifestations of his artworks can be seen or understood as a being caught in consciousness and great contemplation, collecting, merging, deleting, calculating, creating... Reminiscent of the quote by Alexis Carrel that regards man as both the marble and sculptor of his own being
